How Do You Store Water Long-Term Without Chemicals?

Does anyone have tried-and-true methods for storing water long-term without relying on bleach or chemical additives? I’m looking for options that keep water safe and drinkable for at least 6-12 months, preferably using food-grade containers. Solar disinfection and boiling work for short-term, but I’m stumped on the best approach for longer storage without chemicals

Glass jugs and stainless steel containers are my go-to for long-term water storage since they don't leach or degrade. I boil the water first, let it cool, fill the containers, and seal them tight. Then I store them in a cool, dark place to slow down any algae or bacteria growth. It's not 100% foolproof, but I've had water taste fresh after a year this way. Anyone tried layering with oxygen absorbers or is that overkill

Rotating your water every 6 months is key; I just refill glass carboys from my well and stash them in the basement, no chemicals—haven’t had any issues yet. Anyone use ceramic crocks?

I stick with glass carboys too, usually after boiling and cooling the water first. As long as they’re stored away from sunlight and heat, I’ve had no issues with taste or clarity after several months. Never tried oxygen absorbers myself—wonder if that’s totally necessary if everything’s sterilized and sealed up tight? Curious if anyone’s dealt with buildup or weird flavors using ceramic crocks over time.
