Best Ways to Store Water Long-Term?

Looking for advice on the most reliable ways to store water long-term without it going stagnant or picking up a plastic taste. Do most folks use food-grade barrels, or are there better options I’m missing? Tips on purification and rotation schedules would be great.

Food-grade barrels are what I use, mainly because they’re reliable and easy to clean. I’d avoid anything that ever held non-food stuff, just not worth the risk. For purification, plain unscented bleach is my go-to—just a few drops per gallon to keep things safe during storage. I mark rotation dates right on each barrel and swap out every six months, though I know some folks stretch it longer. Curious if anyone’s tried UV purifiers for storage, or is that more for just before use?

I’ve had the best luck with food-grade barrels, too—just be sure they’re in a cool, dark spot to help with that plastic taste and algae worries. How often do you plan to rotate, BlueHarborTea?
