Sandy Fire in Simi Valley: More than 1,300 acres scorched, evacuations expanded

Simi Valley Engulfed by Fire: Area of Over 1,300 Acres Burnt, Evacuation Measures Intensified

The ongoing fire in Simi Valley has led to the closure of all schools in the Unified School District. The disruption extends to after-school programs and activities. Only key staff members will be called upon for specific tasks.

The district plans to monitor the fire's condition on Tuesday afternoon to determine whether the schools can resume operations on Wednesday.

Smoke Visible from San Fernando Valley

Smoke has been visible from San Fernando Valley on Monday night as the struggle to contain the Simi Valley fire continues. Although the fire is primarily in Ventura County, residents of West Hills and Chatsworth have been warned of possible evacuations, due to wind carrying the smoke and flames towards the valley.

The Mayor of Los Angeles assured residents stating that at present, they don't anticipate the wildfire reaching the city. However, as a precautionary measure, resources have been mobilized in the San Fernando Valley and evacuation warnings have been issued for parts of West Hills and Chatsworth.

This means that while residents are not required to leave immediately, they are advised to stay alert and be ready to evacuate if the situation deteriorates and an evacuation order is issued. Residents might experience smoke from the fire in the evening.

Growth of the Sandy Fire

The Sandy Fire has expanded to over 1,300 acres, and evacuation orders and warnings are being extended accordingly. Residents affected by the fire can find more information on the state fire department's website.

Damage Caused by the Fire

One property in Simi Valley was completely destroyed by the fire on Monday. The property was located at the top of a cul-de-sac. Local residents reported abnormal conditions around 10 a.m., including strong winds. The fire ascended the hillside, destroying the house at the top of Trickling Brook Court.

Firefighters managed to restrict the fire to just one building. Nonetheless, the fire remains uncontrolled as wind directions keep changing, leading to thousands of residents in Ventura and Los Angeles counties being under evacuation warnings and orders.

Watching the smoke roll in from the hills—feels like déjà vu all over again. Anyone else packing their go-bags just in case things shift overnight?
