Best Low-Tech Ways to Purify Water Off-Grid?

Looking for solid, low-tech water purification methods that don’t require filters or chemicals. Anyone had good luck with solar stills or sand/charcoal filtration? Curious what’s been reliable for folks in long-term off-grid situations.

Sand and charcoal filtration’s given me decent results for removing sediment and improving taste, but I still boil afterwards for safety. Solar stills can work, but honestly, they’re pretty slow and labor-intensive—not ideal if you need more than a cup or two per day. For long-term off-grid, I found a combo of rain catchment and slow sand filter (with regular maintenance) gets the job done. Anybody else tried using old ceramic pots as makeshift filters? I’d love to hear what tweaks you’ve found reliable in the long haul.
