That’s just the sweetest thing—go, Dottie! There’s something magical about watching animals overcome their little fears. Reminds me of last spring when my tabby, Tansy, finally made peace with the garden wheelbarrow. She used to hiss at the sight of it, but one morning she just hopped right in and rode along as I weeded. Now she acts like it’s her personal carriage.

Animals really do pick up on our energy, don’t they? I notice when I’m calm and patient, my critters seem braver too. Maybe that’s part of what makes pets so special—they teach us about patience and encouragement without a single word.

If anyone else has animals that “help” in the garden, I’d love to hear those stories. My hens like to follow behind, scratching up bugs, and I swear they look proud when they find a big fat worm! Do any of your pets pitch in when you’re working outside, or do they prefer supervising from a sunny patch?

Whenever I’m digging in the veggie patch, my old retriever sits guard like he’s protecting treasure—unless a squirrel distracts him, then it’s game over! Do your hens ever wander too far?

Dottie’s stair-climbing adventure is just darling—puppies have such bravery packed into those wiggly little bodies! Your tabby Tansy’s wheelbarrow ride made me chuckle. Animals really do adapt in the funniest ways when we’re patient, don’t they?

My garden “helpers” are my three Barred Rock hens, and they’re usually underfoot, scratching for seeds or catching bugs. They do wander sometimes, especially if they spy something tasty in the herb patch—a parsley plant left unguarded is fair game in their eyes! I find they never go too far, though. Probably because they know I’ll call them back with a handful of mealworms.

My old cat, Sage, is strictly a supervisor. She’ll nap right in the shade of the comfrey bush, watching the world go by, only moving if the hens get too cheeky. There’s something comforting about having all those little lives bustling around while I work—reminds me nature’s always full of surprises.

Does anyone else use their flock for pest control? I’d love to hear if anyone’s had luck training chickens to stay
