Best Ways to Store Water Long-Term Without Chemicals?

Looking for advice on storing water long-term without using any chemical treatments like bleach. I've read about using glass jugs, stainless steel, and even ceramic, but wondering what options are truly safest and keep water fresh the longest. Is boiling first and keeping the containers in a dark, cool place enough? Would love to hear what containers and storage methods have actually worked for you—especially for those wanting to keep things as natural as possible. Any tips on preventing algae growth or off flavors appreciated.

Boiling and using glass is what I've always come back to—nothing beats it for taste or peace of mind. Stainless steel is just as good if you can find food-grade, tight-sealing containers. Biggest thing for me has been keeping everything spotless and tucking jugs away somewhere dark and fairly cool, or else you’ll get that swampy flavor. Ever tried using old ceramic crocks? Mine keep water

I've found glass keeps water tasting fresh the longest too, but lugging those big jars is tough on my back these days! TeaTimeTalisman, do you do anything special to keep stainless from picking up metallic flavors?
