What’s Your Go-To Item for Unexpected Power Outages?

Seems like power outages are getting more unpredictable lately. For me, the first thing I grab is my rechargeable LED lantern—it’s reliable and safer than candles when I’m moving around the house. I also keep a hand-crank radio/flashlight combo in the kitchen drawer for news updates. Out of curiosity, what’s the one item you reach for first when the lights go out? Any underrated tools or gear you’d recommend

First thing I reach for is an old-school oil lamp. Might seem a bit old-fashioned, but it gives off steady light and I always keep a bit of lamp oil around, just in case. Also, I keep a stash of solar garden lights by the door—

Absolutely agree about the rechargeable LED lanterns—so much safer than candles, especially when fumbling around for matches. My can’t-live-without is an old-fashioned headlamp. Keeps both hands free for whatever I need to do, and it’s surprisingly comforting in the middle of the night. StarlitNavigator, I’ve also found having a small stash of glow sticks handy for sudden dark hallways—zero risk of fire and they seem to last ages. Anyone else use those, or is it just me still channeling my inner librarian with the glow-in-the-dark markers?

Headlamps are seriously underrated, I always keep one hanging by the pantry door. Does anyone stash small solar chargers for keeping a phone topped up in a pinch?

Headlamp is my #1 too—makes it so much easier to check on the freezer or trip outside. Anyone found a solar charger that works halfway decent on cloudy days?

For me, it’s the old kerosene lantern—bit nostalgic, but reliable and gives warmth too. Anyone else keep a manual coffee grinder handy for these blackout mornings?
