Tragic Plane Crash in Wyoming Mountains Claims One Life, Three Others Injured

A small aircraft, that had four passengers on board, met with a tragic accident in the mountainous region of northern Wyoming. A 13-year-old girl lost her life in the crash while three of her family members suffered injuries.

The Incident

The distress signal was first received by law enforcement in Sheridan, Wyoming. The report suggested that there might be lost or injured people in the vicinity of Big Mountain in the Bighorn National Forest. The distress signal was quickly followed by further reports indicating that an aircraft might have crashed in the same region.

Upon receiving the reports, law enforcement officers, search and rescue teams, and emergency medical services personnel were immediately dispatched to the probable crash site.

Confirmation and Rescue Efforts

A small aircraft was flown over the mentioned area to verify the reports. The flyover confirmed the unfortunate news of a plane crash, west of Big Mountain.

Rescue and health care teams were promptly sent to the crash site. Among the wreckage, they found a single-engine aircraft with three survivors and a 13-year-old girl who had tragically lost her life.

The survivors, all from the same family, included an 11-year-old boy, a 54-year-old man, and a 53-year-old woman. They were all reported to be in a serious condition. The on-site medical and rescue teams worked tirelessly to stabilize the injured family members. To aid in the rescue operations, a helicopter from the Wyoming Army National Guard was called in for hoist operations.

Post-Rescue Actions

Following the successful extraction from the crash site, the surviving passengers were transported to two different hospitals. Their current health status is not known. The body of the deceased young girl was handed over to the Sheridan County Coroner. It was mentioned that her identity will be revealed to the public at a later date.

In response to the incident, the Sheriff of Sheridan County, Levi Dominguez, praised the combined efforts of the rescue teams, emergency medical services, and aircraft personnel. He described the situation as fluid and extended his thoughts and prayers to the victims and their family.

Investigation

Officials from the Federal Aviation Administration were reported to be en route to the crash site to start an investigation into the cause of the accident. The Sheriff's office has requested the public to avoid the crash site to facilitate the ongoing investigation.

Absolutely heartbreaking to read about this family. Can’t imagine the pain they’re going through, especially losing a child in such a terrible way. The mountains can be so unforgiving, even for experienced pilots. Really makes you think about how quickly things can change in remote areas. Does anyone know if weather was a factor in the crash?
