Best Cheap Foods to Stock for Long-Term Emergencies?

Looking to refresh my long-term food stores on a pretty tight budget this season. I’ve already got a decent stock of rice, dried beans, and oats, but I’m curious what other cheap, shelf-stable foods folks here rely on for serious emergencies. Lentils and pasta are obvious choices, but I worry about relying too much on just a few staples if we’re talking months or even a year.

Does anyone have input on foods that’ll last 10+ years with proper storage, preferably things that offer some variety or nutritional punch? I’m also interested in lesser-known options—like split peas, barley, or powdered milk—especially if they’re affordable in bulk. If you’ve got tips for storing or rotating these foods, that’d be a big help too, since space is at a premium here.

How do you balance cost, nutrition, and storage life in your own setups? Any bulk sources you trust more than others? Trying to stretch my prepping dollar while not sacrificing practicality or health. Appreciate any advice or experiences you’re willing to share.
