Best Foods to Stockpile for a 3-Month Emergency?

Looking to firm up my food stores for a solid 3-month stretch—what staples do you all swear by for nutrition and long shelf life? I’m leaning towards a mix of beans, rice, and canned proteins, but open to suggestions I might’ve overlooked. Any underrated essentials?

Dried lentils are a real workhorse—cook faster than most beans and don’t need soaking. Don’t forget old-fashioned oats, super versatile for breakfasts or stretching meals, and powdered milk lasts ages if you want dairy on hand. Canned veggies (especially tomatoes) help round out meals and keep things from getting too bland. Anyone have luck storing whole grains like wheat berries long-term?

Freeze-dried fruits and veggies are a lifesaver for both nutrition and keeping meals interesting long-term—they last way longer than canned and take up less space. I’d also add instant mashed potatoes and hard cheeses (like parmesan, vacuum-sealed), which don’t get mentioned much but are great for calories and flavor. Don’t overlook nuts and seeds, either, if you’ve got cool storage. Has anyone tried keeping miso paste or bouillon cubes for easy broth?

Herbs and spices are easy to overlook, but they make a huge difference—bay leaves, thyme, and garlic powder stretch basic meals a long way. Has anyone tried storing dried nettle or dandelion greens?
