Best Pantry Staples for Long-Term Emergency Food Storage?

Curious what pantry staples folks prioritize for true long-term storage. I tend to focus on dry goods like beans, rice, oats, and powdered milk, but I'm wondering what others find most versatile and durable when stored for years. Are there any overlooked items that have a long shelf life and can add variety to meals in an emergency situation? Also, thoughts on best containers or

I always make sure to have plenty of lentils on hand, even more than beans honestly—they cook faster, don’t need soaking, and pack tons of nutrients. Hard red wheat berries are another staple I like for their shelf life (stored right, they last decades) and you can grind them for bread or sprout them for greens. Don’t overlook salt and bouillon cubes, either—both are crucial for flavor and preserving food, and bouillon makes bland stuff a lot more edible. Dried onions and garlic have saved me from many boring meals

Honey is a big one for me—lasts forever, doesn’t need refrigeration, and can be used to sweeten or even for minor wound care. I also keep plenty of peanut butter (or powdered peanut butter for longer shelf life) for protein and calories, plus it’s kid-friendly. Don’t forget instant yeast if you’re storing flour or wheat berries; it can be hard to find in a pinch. Has anyone tried storing dehydrated veggies for the long haul? I’m curious how well the flavor holds up after a couple years.
