Best Ways to Purify Water Off-Grid?

Looking to hear what everyone relies on for purifying water when the grid's down. Anyone have long-term experience with gravity filters vs. boiling or chemical treatments? Curious what's been most reliable for you in real-world scenarios, especially for group use.

For bigger groups, I lean toward gravity filters—less fuel needed, and you can process more at once without standing over a pot. Boiling works if you’ve got the firewood or propane, but it’s slow and doesn’t get out stuff like chemicals. Haven’t loved the taste of water after chemical treatments, and not everyone in a group likes them, either. Those Berkey-style gravity set-ups are pricey upfront but last ages. Has anyone tried combining a gravity filter with a solar still for added safety?
