Best Ways to Purify Water Off-Grid?

Been reading up on different off-grid water purification methods and would love some feedback from folks with real-world experience. Between boiling, gravity-fed filters, solar stills, and chemical treatments, which methods have actually worked best for you when reliability was key? I’m particularly concerned about long-term sustainability if supply chains break down. Any tips on DIY filter setups or overlooked purification methods would be appreciated too.

Long-term sustainability is exactly why I’ve leaned so much on gravity-fed ceramic or biosand filters. You don’t have to rely on replacement parts (as long as you maintain them), and you can make the biosand style mostly from local materials if needed. Boiling’s effective for pathogens but uses up precious fuel if you don’t have a renewable supply.
