Best Ways to Store Water Long-Term?

Looking for advice on the most reliable methods to store water long-term. I’ve always done food-grade barrels with a bit of unscented bleach, but I hear mixed things about shelf-stable preservatives and rotating supply. What’s actually working for folks over 1+ years? Are water bricks or glass carboys worth the upfront cost, or just stick with the basics? Appreciate any real-world experience or tips on keeping water fresh and safe.

For me, water bricks are worth it for the space-saving and durability, but I still keep a few old glass carboys around for emergencies—curious, TeaTimeTalisman, have you had any issues with leakiness or breakage?

Been using food-grade barrels with a touch of bleach for years—no issues. Water bricks are handy but pricey; anyone tried stacking them in hot sheds without leaks?

Never had leak problems with water bricks, even in Texas heat, but I rotate water every six months just in case. Anyone tried hydrogen peroxide instead of bleach?
