Popular Restaurant Chain Launches Unique Discount Menu
A leading restaurant chain, renowned for its assortment of soups, salads, and sandwiches, has unveiled a new strategy to entice budget-conscious customers. The company aims to reverse years of decreased footfalls and regain its position in the market. Once the most popular casual dining brand in the U.S., it now ranks third, having lost its leading position to other competitive brands.
The company's sales witnessed a 5% dip, landing at $6.1 billion. In response to this slump, the restaurant has launched a value-focused comeback strategy.
An Industry-Wide Struggle
It's not just this particular company facing a downturn. Industry leaders across the board are noticing a downturn in consumer spending. Customers are opting for less expensive fast-food chains or limiting dining out to save money. Other chains like the ones famous for burgers or tacos have also been using value deals as a tactic to regain customers.
According to a yearly report on the state of the restaurant industry, nearly 75% of diners stated that daily specials, discounts, or value deals play a significant role in deciding where to dine or order takeout.
Value and Quality
"Customers are not only looking for value but also quality," said the CEO of the restaurant chain. "This is incredibly crucial."
As part of the new strategy, the restaurant is introducing a 'Mix & Match' menu from Wednesday. Customers can choose half-portions of sandwiches and salads and cups of soup from this special menu. Each item from the list of ten options is priced at $4.99, and customers must order a minimum of two items. Seasonal dishes will also be included in the 'Mix & Match' options from time to time.
Moreover, each order will also come with an optional baguette, chips, or an apple. The CEO pointed out that the company did experiment with other value offerings, but the 'Mix & Match' menu was well-received in testing.
"The response from the customers was overwhelmingly positive," he said, adding that the menu is anticipated to drive more visits to the restaurant.
Keeping the Favorites
While the company is launching the new menu, it is not doing away with its popular 'You Pick Two' deal. The CEO explained that customer research revealed that diners see the option to buy two entrées from the menu more as an opportunity for variety than a chance to save money. Like 'Mix & Match', the 'You Pick Two' option allows customers to choose a half salad, half sandwich, or a cup of soup. However, unlike 'Mix & Match', which is limited to ten items, 'You Pick Two' covers the entire menu.
In conclusion, this restaurant chain is making a bold move to regain its footing in the competitive fast-casual dining market. It remains to be seen how successful the 'Mix & Match' value menu will be in drawing in price-conscious diners without sacrificing the quality the brand is known for.
