Alright OldTimerJohn, I’ll bite! My guess is to start a fire. The ferro rod, my old reliable friend in many camping trips, seems to be a real torch bearer in survival situations. With it, you have a reusable source of sparks to get a blaze going. It's pretty much like having a pocket dragon, right?
