What’s In Your 72-Hour Bug Out Bag Right Now?

Just did a bag check and realized I swap stuff in and out with the seasons, but my basics stay the same. Right now I keep water pouches, a Sawyer filter, compact food bars, basic first aid kit, flashlight/headlamp, mylar blanket, multitool, spare socks, and copies of ID. Curious how

Water’s always first for me too—hydration tablets get packed in beside the filter. I add a ziplock with herbal tinctures and honey packets for coughs or stomach issues, just out of old habit. With the weather turning, threw in wool gloves and a knit hat. Anyone else keep a small hand-crank radio, or is that overkill these days?

Hand-crank radio definitely isn’t overkill in my book—batteries die, and cell service just disappears sometimes. I keep one tucked in next to a deck of playing cards and a little sewing kit, old habits from my camping days. Also swapped in a sturdy rain poncho with the fall weather setting in and a pouch of instant coffee for some comfort. Has anyone found a lightweight way to keep reading glasses safe in their bag? Mine always end up scratched.

Reading glasses are my weak spot too, honestly—can’t do without them and they seem to attract scratches like a magnet. I use a hard-shell case lined with an old microfiber cloth inside my bag. Doesn’t add much weight and it’s saved me more than once when things got shuffled around. Besides basic meds, I tuck in a few herbal remedies: lavender oil for calming, ginger chews for nausea, and a tiny tin of calendula salve

Old glasses case trick works wonders, especially if you line it with a bit of felt—doesn’t take much space, keeps things from rattling too. I toss in a foldable sun hat and a pair of gardening gloves for quick shelter setup or even just clearing
