What’s One Prep You Wish You’d Started Sooner?
If I could go back and do it over, I’d have started building a backup water catchment system much earlier. The whole process is more involved than I first thought – getting barrels, proper filtration, figuring out safe long-term storage, and maintaining the setup so the water stays usable. It’s not something you can do overnight, and waiting until a weather event to realize you need it is just setting yourself up for trouble.
Now I’ve got two setups: one for the garden and another specifically for potable water, both gravity-fed. But getting the right filters (ceramic, charcoal, etc.) and understanding how to sanitize the barrels took way longer than I expected.
Curious if anyone else has a prep they wish they’d started sooner? Maybe there’s something obvious others are overlooking because it feels too daunting or unnecessary until you're actually in a pinch. Would love to hear what others found challenging or underestimated in their own prepping journey.
