What’s Your Go-To Item for Bug Out Bags?

If you could only carry one item in your bug out bag, what would it be? For me, it’s a multi-tool—covers so many bases in a pinch. Curious if others prioritize water filtration, fire starters, or something else entirely?

A multi-tool is definitely a top contender—so many uses and not a lot of weight. I actually tend to reach for a sturdy fixed-blade knife, though. It’s amazing how much you can do with one, from food prep to shelter building and all sorts of problem-solving in the wild. MarigoldBreeze, do you have a favorite brand or style of multi-tool that’s held up well for you? Some of those hinges get finicky after a while!

That fixed-blade knife choice makes sense—nothing beats a solid blade when things get rough. Do you prefer full-tang for extra strength or just go with whatever feels right?

Full-tang all the way for me—those partial tangs just never hold up when you really need to put in some muscle. I’ve seen too many handles snap or twist right off. Honestly, I think a solid knife covers so many bases…though I still toss in a tiny water filter if I have room. Does anyone else worry more about clean water or cutting tools when narrowing down to just one?

Water filter always tops my list—can’t do much without clean water, even with the best knife around. Anyone ever actually had a filter fail in the wild?
