What’s Your Go-To Skill for Grid Down Survival?

When the grid goes down, I’m betting hard on my gardening and food preservation skills. Curious what single skill others here are prioritizing—firecraft? Water purification? Something else? I’m always thinking about what skill most folks overlook till it’s too late.

Water purification jumps right to the top of my list. You can have all the canned goods in the world but if you can’t make water safe, it’ll catch up with you fast. I keep extra filters and practice boiling/solar methods too—never hurts to have backups. Ever tried making your own charcoal filter from scratch? Feels like one of those skills that’ll matter more than we think.

That’s such a good point about water. It’s so easy to take clean water for granted, but once you’re relying on natural sources, things get tricky fast. I’ve made simple charcoal filters with stuff from the woods—works fine, but you have to replace the charcoal a lot more often than I expected. Herbal knowledge comes in handy too for treating minor waterborne bugs when filtration isn’t perfect. Has anyone here actually had to use wild herbs for stomach upsets
