What’s Your Go-To Skill If the Grid Goes Down?

If the grid goes down, I know my hands go straight to food preservation. Canning and dehydrating bridge the gap when fresh produce isn’t an option. I’m curious—what’s the first skill you all turn to when the lights go out for good? Do you focus on water sourcing, defense, or maybe shelter improvement? Would love to hear what tops your priority list and if you’ve actually had to put it to the test.

Do you focus on water sourcing, defense, or maybe shelter improvement?

Water sourcing always tops my list, especially since you can only go a few days without it. I’ve spent years learning to identify wild sources and ways to purify what I find—nature provides if you know where to look. Of course, herbal remedies tie in too, since safe water isn’t just about quenching thirst, but avoiding all the nasties that come with stagnant supplies. Shelter’s important, but honestly, I’d rather brave a night in the open than go thirsty! BlueMarigold, do you have a favorite method for finding or purifying water?
