What’s Your Most Underrated Prepping Item?

Tooth powder is my pick—compact, lasts ages, and no worries about paste drying out. What’s something in your kits you rarely see mentioned but wouldn’t go without? Always curious what little items others consider essential.

Vaseline-coated cotton balls—tiny, cheap, and they’ll get a fire going in the wettest conditions. Ever tried making your own or do you go store-bought for fire starters?

Tooth powder is a smart one—takes up hardly any space, and you don’t have to worry about a messy tube breaking. I swear people underestimate how uplifting it is to keep up with routines like brushing your teeth when things get stressful. For me, a roll of sturdy gardening wire is something I always have stashed away, and almost never see on lists. It’s lightweight and works for all sorts of quick fixes—mending gear, hanging tarps, even splinting in a pinch (nurse habits die hard). I’ve even used it to fasten together a broken gate when a windstorm hit and that saved quite a bit of hassle.
