Eyeglasses are a big one—lost mine during a long hike once and realized real quick how critical they are. For me, it’s always spare radio batteries. Easy to get caught up in food and water planning and just assume I’ll have juice for my comms, but dead batteries mean total silence. I stash extras in every bag now. Anyone else find they neglect the simple stuff like that until it actually bites them?

It’s always the can opener for me, believe it or not. You’d think after all these years I’d remember one with every kit, but no—always assuming there’ll be a way to open those cans! Had to improvise with a rock once, and let’s just say it wasn’t pretty. Anyone else have one of those “well, that was dumb” moments with basic kitchen stuff?
