Best Ways to Store Water Long-Term?

Storing enough water for the long haul is proving trickier than I expected. I’ve read about using food-grade barrels, but I’m unsure about the best way to keep the water fresh and safe from algae or contamination. Does anyone have experience with adding bleach or water preserver drops, and how often does the water really need rotating? Also curious if anyone’s tried using rainwater catchment for this purpose—worth it for drinking, or just

Food-grade barrels work well if you keep them sealed and out of sunlight; for bleach, I use 1 tsp per 5 gallons, but honestly, rotating every 6-12 months gives me peace of mind. Rainwater’s great for non-drinking uses unless you’ve got serious filtration.
