How Much Food Should I Really Be Storing?

I've been reading conflicting advice on how much food per person to store—some say 3 months, others a year or more. For those with experience, what’s the sweet spot for long-term scenarios? Any tips for balancing calories, nutrition, and storage space?

For me, three months is a solid baseline, but I’m aiming closer to a year for real peace of mind—just takes more planning. Variety’s just as crucial as quantity; beans and rice go far but throw in some dried veggies, fats

Three months is definitely a solid start, but pushing toward a year like you, GarnetDusk, does make things feel a whole lot steadier—if you can swing the space for it. I’m right with you about the variety too; nothing worse than eating the same thing day after day, and fats are often overlooked but so important. I like throwing in homemade dried herbs and some canned goods to change up the flavors. How are you handling rotation for that much food, especially the fats? That part’s always a bit of a juggling act for me.
