Best Way to Store Water Long-Term?

Looking to up my game with long-term water storage and hoping for some practical advice. I've been using BPA-free 5-gallon jugs, but I'm starting to wonder about best practices for both container choice and storage treatment. Is anyone still rotating with bleach treatment or moving to water preservatives like Aquamira? Also curious if anyone has tried glass bottles (though I worry about breakage and weight), or if food-grade barrels are the way to go.

How do you keep stored water from tasting stale or picking up plastic flavor after a few months

I've stuck with food-grade barrels and BPA-free jugs too, and honestly, regular rotation plus keeping them in a cool, dark spot makes a huge difference for taste. A tiny splash of unscented bleach still works just fine, but I’ve started using Aquamira tablets for some batches—less of that chemical aftertaste, in my opinion. Glass is solid for small amounts, but yeah, breakage risk is real. Taste-wise, I’ve noticed airing out water before drinking helps with plastic flavor if it’s been sitting a while. Have you tried carbon filter pitchers to freshen it up before use?
