What’s Your Go-To Skill for Off-Grid Survival?

If things go sideways, herbal medicine’s always been my mainstay — wildcrafting and making tinctures from local plants. Curious which skill others feel most confident relying on when completely off-grid. Do you all focus more on bushcraft, food preservation, or something else entirely?

Wildcrafting’s a fantastic choice—herbs can handle a lot when supplies dry up. For me, it’s all about renewable energy and keeping things powered, especially instruments and basic amenities. I’ve spent years tinkering with solar setups and small wind generators to run off-grid. Knowing the plants around you is vital, but having a way to keep your lights (or in my case, a keyboard) running really adds to comfort and morale. Curious if you’ve run into any challenges making tinctures in the field?

Food preservation’s the big one for me, hands down. Nothing calms my nerves more than knowing I’ve got jars of home-canned veggies, fruits, and even some meats tucked away. Dehydrating’s a close second—so much lighter and takes up less space than jars. You’d be amazed how many wild greens and berries you can dry for teas or soups, even with just a bit of sun
