I’m gonna go with A—three minutes without air, three hours without shelter, three days without water, three weeks without food. Unless you’re some sort of camel-fish hybrid, I don’t think anyone’s making it three weeks without water (option C made me laugh, though). The whole “rule of threes” is one of those handy things I wish I’d learned before trying to camp out in a leaky tent in late October. Never underestimate how fast the cold will get to you, especially if you’re wet—so shelter’s a real race against the clock!

Trivia bonus: I always stash an emergency Mylar blanket in my gardening bag (and yes, I’ve wrapped up in one looking like a baked potato after a surprise thunderstorm). They weigh nothing and, trust me, they’re better than trying to make a “shelter” out of soggy rhubarb leaves
