What’s One Prep You Wish You’d Started Sooner?

Wish I’d started building up my water storage way earlier—figured food was more important and underestimated how tricky safe water can be. What’s the one prep you all regret not kicking off sooner? Any hard lessons learned from it?

Should’ve started drying and storing herbs years ago—realized too late how much they can help with little ailments when you can’t just run to the store. Anyone else rely on homemade remedies?

What’s the one prep you all regret not kicking off sooner?

Absolutely wish I’d invested in quality radios and learned more about emergency comms way earlier. I focused so much on food, tools, and basic gear that I didn’t really consider how isolating a crisis can be if you’re cut off from information or can’t check in with family. The first time our area lost power for days, I realized just listening to local traffic or weather updates makes a world of difference. If I’d started with ham radio sooner, I wouldn’t have felt so in the dark that first go-around.

It’s not just about gear, either—it’s really the know-how you build up over time. Setting up antennas, learning which frequencies to use, making contacts—none of that happens overnight. Regret not joining my local radio club until later on, too. It’s honestly reassuring to have a network of people who can pass along info if cell service goes down
