Best Ways to Store Water Long-Term—What Actually Works?

I’ve opened barrels after a year with just a bit of bleach, and water was fine—no weird smell or taste at all. Honestly, rotating bottled water feels more like a hassle to me than just checking barrels yearly.

Barrels with a bit of bleach have worked here too, no issues even after two years. Anyone tried adding water preserver drops instead of bleach?

Opened my barrels after about 18 months—just a little bleach, like you mentioned, and the water was still good. Honestly, food-grade barrels seem more reliable to me than constantly rotating bottles.

I've actually tried those water preserver drops once, just out of curiosity. Didn’t notice much difference from the bleach method, honestly, except they cost a whole lot more! The water was fine after a year, no odd taste, but I still lean toward plain unscented bleach for simplicity’s sake. MarigoldBreeze, have you noticed any taste difference or is it just peace of mind for you
