What’s Your Top Priority When Starting a Prepper Pantry?

Shelf life or versatility—what’s your number one when stocking the pantry from scratch? I always lean towards dry beans and grains, but sometimes wonder if I’m missing a trick with other basics. What would you put at the very top of your list?

Shelf life is huge for me, but versatility sneaks right in behind it. Dry beans and grains are staples here too, but I’d put plain old oats very near the top of my list—they’re affordable, last forever, and you can use

Versatility’s important, but I admit shelf life wins out for me when I’m starting fresh. I always stock plenty of rice and oats—they’re so forgiving and last ages if kept dry. Dry beans like you mentioned, AquaFern1028, are a staple here too, though I like to keep some canned veggies and tomatoes for quick meals or if water’s tight. I do add spices and bouillon, since bland food gets old fast. Curious if anyone else keeps instant potatoes—those have saved me more than once!
