Solar lanterns are such a smart idea—mine live on the windowsill so they're always charged up, just in case. I also swear by my stash of battery-powered tea lights. They last forever and you can scatter them around to avoid stubbing your toes in the dark. The first thing I usually grab is a pot of water off the stove,
