I always see folks stocking water, food, and first-aid, but I rarely see much mention of manual can openers. It’s such a simple tool, but if you go through your canned goods and realize you only have the electric one, you’re in trouble. What other prep items do you all think get overlooked

Completely agree about the manual can opener—funny how easy it is to forget since so many of us rely on the electric one day-to-day. Another one I rarely see mentioned is a proper set of reading glasses (if you need them). In an emergency, being able to read labels,

Reading glasses, yes! It’s so easy to take vision for granted until you can’t see a thing when you need to. I’d also add a good nail clipper or file—hangnails and rough nails can get nasty fast, especially if you’re out working with your hands. Anybody else stash spare dental floss? It’s handy for repairs too, not just teeth.

Manual can openers are absolutely essential, and it’s amazing how easy they are to overlook until you actually need one and realize you’re stuck! Another one I hardly ever see mentioned is a sturdy pair of gardening gloves. They’re not just for the garden—handling debris, cooking over open fires, or even just moving firewood can be rough on older hands. It’s the little things, like you said, that really make a difference when things get tough.
