What’s Your Top “Must Have” Item for Bugging Out?

If you could only grab one thing for a fast bug out, what would it be? I keep going back and forth between a quality water filter and my herbal first aid kit. Both seem essential in different scenarios, but hard to pick just one. Curious what item tops your list and why—especially from folks who have had to leave in a hurry before.

Absolutely with you on how hard this choice is. If pressed, I’d pick a high-quality water filter every single time. Without clean water, nothing else matters much, and you can only carry so much bottled water before it weighs you down. Having worked in healthcare, I’ve seen first hand how quick dehydration or contaminated water can take someone out of commission—even healthy folks, let alone kids or older people. First aid’s so important (and it's always in my kit

Water filter’s my pick too—clean water just can’t be replaced. Ever tried boiling as a backup, or do you always rely on the filter in a pinch?

Gotta agree with the crowd, water filter is the gold standard. I’ve got backup methods like boiling or using iodine tabs, but nothing beats the speed and ease of a good filter—less time fiddling, more time moving. Funny how food or fancy gear sounds important until you’re really thirsty. Has anyone ever actually run out of filters in a real-life emergency? Always wondered how much is “enough” to stash.
