Absolutely agree about a good fixed-blade knife—it’s hard to overstate how many uses it has. I’ve used mine for everything from cutting saplings for shelter frames to splitting kindling and even prying open stubborn plant roots. The chance to improvise shelter or cooking tools is so much easier if you have a reliable blade, especially one that holds an edge. I’ll admit, I’m partial to tucking a small roll of herbal salves and bandages alongside my knife, just out of old habit—hard to leave my herbalist side behind. Have you found a particular blade style that works better for these kinds of jobs? I’m always torn between a bushcraft knife and something a bit lighter.
