Tragedy Strikes at Fast Food Joint's Inauguration

A joyous celebration turned into a scene of chaos and despair as a shooting occurred close to the grand opening of a popular fast food joint in downtown Long Beach. The incident left one individual dead and two others injured.

Shots Ring Out Amid Celebration

The gunfire broke out approximately half a block south of the opening event, which was happening on Broadway near Pine Avenue. The area had been cordoned off for the festivities. Earlier in the day, hundreds of people had assembled to celebrate the opening of the latest outlet of this popular fast food chain, a venture started by the late, beloved rapper Nipsey Hussle and his brother, Black Sam.

Eric VanDyke, a family member of Hussle, was present at the scene and witnessed the ensuing panic. "I saw people running. When you see a mass of people running, you know something's going on, and they ran in one direction, and then the other direction, then somebody said that they heard gunshots," he recalled.

A Day of Joy Overshadowed by Violence

According to VanDyke, the violent incident cast a shadow over the otherwise positive spirit of the day. "It was disappointing because I know that Nip, Black Sam wanted this to be a happy occasion, so it's unfortunate that something happened that would bring more attention to the negative elements as opposed to the positive elements," he expressed.

Victims Rushed to Hospital

Three men were reportedly shot and rushed to the hospital. One of them tragically succumbed to his injuries, while the other two are reported to be in stable condition. "That's devastating, you know what I'm saying, especially being that this is the grand opening. We're here to honor Nipsey Hussle, the late great, and that's not what he would have wanted," said Seven, a local resident.

Investigations Continue, No Suspects Apprehended

Police have not yet apprehended any suspects, and the investigation into the incident is ongoing. It remains unclear whether the shooting was in any way related to the grand opening event. Despite the unfortunate occurrence, the fast food joint declared the opening a huge success. They continued to serve orders while investigators worked diligently behind crime scene tape just outside the establishment.

Legacy Lives On

This unfortunate event followed just a day after hundreds gathered in South Los Angeles to honor the life and legacy of Nipsey Hussle. The city officially named the intersection of Slauson and Crenshaw "Nipsey Hussle Square" as a tribute to the much-loved rapper.
