Three Men Convicted in Fatal Attack on Visiting Surfers
A coastal court has reached a verdict in a major criminal trial, finding three men guilty for the violent deaths of three tourists. The victims—two brothers from Australia and their friend from the United States—were killed while on a camping and surfing trip along the coast of Baja California.
The court identified the main person responsible as Jesús Gerardo García, also known by his nickname "El Kekas." The judge also convicted his two accomplices, Irineo Francisco "N" and Ángel Jesús "N". All three men faced serious charges connected to the ambush at the campsite.
Tragic End to a Coastal Trip
The three friends—Callum Robinson, Jake Robinson, and Carter Redd Rhoad—had traveled to a remote coastal spot called Punta San Jose, located about 50 miles outside the town of Ensenada. They had set up tents near the water to enjoy the ocean waves.
Shortly after arriving at their campsite, the men disappeared without a trace. A search was launched, leading to a tragic discovery when searchers located the bodies of all three men hidden inside a deep well in the area.
Chilling Details Emerge During the Trial
During the trial proceedings, courtroom details revealed how the violent attack took place at the isolated beach site. Key facts presented during the trial showed a clear timeline of events:
- The visitors were resting near their tents when an armed attacker approached them holding a 9 mm handgun.
- An associate had met the tourists earlier and encouraged her companion to target the group for a robbery.
- When confronted by the armed man, the tourists attempted to defend themselves and hand over their belongings to stop the violence.
- One of the victims pleaded for his life, but the gunman ignored the pleas and opened fire on the group.
- The attackers stole the group's personal items, camping gear, and vehicle before attempting to hide the evidence.
Sentencing and Confessions of Other Involvement
A woman linked to the main attacker, named Ary Gisell Silva Raya, was also caught in connection with the crime. Law enforcement found her holding a mobile phone that belonged to one of the victims.
She accepted a plea deal during an expedited legal process, admitting guilt to charges of violent robbery and violent carjacking. The court handed her a 20-year prison sentence for her role. While she accepted a guilty plea early on, the three main defendants chose to go through a full trial.
Full Charges and Prosecutor Requests
Following a monthlong trial, the judge ruled that all three men were fully responsible for the planning and execution of the attack. The court convicted the defendants on three distinct criminal charges:
- Triple homicide for the deaths of the three campers.
- Armed robbery for stealing personal belongings and equipment.
- Armed carjacking for taking the visitors' vehicle at gunpoint.
The parents of the Australian brothers, Debra Robinson and Martin Robinson, traveled to Ensenada to sit in the courtroom throughout the trial. During the proceedings, Debra Robinson expressed that losing her sons ruined the future her family had envisioned together. Martin Robinson described the unbearable pain of losing two children at once.
The three convicted men remain in custody while awaiting their official sentencing hearing. State prosecutors have formally requested that the judge hand down an exemplary penalty of 210 years in prison for each of the three defendants.
