Anyone Actually Tried Living Off-Grid for a Month?

Curious if anyone here has actually spent a full month living completely off-grid—no grid power, no stores, minimal outside contact. What were some unexpected challenges? I keep reading about water filtration and solar setups but wonder how theory matches up with real day-to-day living. Things like food preservation, hygiene, and boredom seem underestimated in a lot of guides. Would appreciate any hard-earned advice or insights before I try this myself.

Living off-grid for a month really puts things in perspective. I struggled most with keeping perishable food from spoiling, even with coolers and root cellar tricks—beans and grains got old fast. Hygiene’s tougher than you think, especially during rainy days when things never dry out properly. Found myself missing hot showers more than anything else! Did you have a plan for managing laundry or just hand-washing everything?

Water was my biggest hurdle, honestly. Filters only last so long, and hauling buckets gets old real fast, especially if you’re trying to keep a small garden going too. Ended up using herbal rinses for hair and body more than I expected, which helped stretch supplies. Nighttime gets quiet and lonely if you’re used to background noise. Did you have any plans for keeping spirits up during the down moments?
