Best Budget Preps You’ve Actually Used?

Looking to stretch my prepping budget this month and wondering what inexpensive items you folks rely on the most—even better if they’ve actually come through in a pinch. I’m talking gear, tools, pantry staples, anything you’ve found truly worthwhile and not just collecting dust. For me, heavy-duty contractor bags and bulk rice have been standouts. Has anyone found a surprisingly durable multi-tool or hand-crank radio under $30 that’s worth recommending? Eager to hear what gets the most mileage in your setups.

Cast iron skillet from a thrift store has honestly been one of my best low-budget preps—cooks absolutely anything, lasts forever, and you can use it over any heat. For food, dried lentils are cheap, nutritious, and store ages if you keep them dry. Also, dollar store tarps have come in handy more times than I expected. Anyone had luck with budget solar lanterns? I keep seeing them pop up but not sure if they're actually reliable.
