Best Foods to Stockpile for Long-Term Emergencies?

When it comes to building a truly resilient food cache, I've seen a lot of debate around freeze-dried vs. dehydrated, and whether grains or beans are better as foundational staples. Personally, I lean toward a mix of whole grains (wheat berries, oats), plenty of dry beans, and some canned proteins. Curious what others think is most important for nutrition over the long haul—do you prioritize calories, shelf life, or variety? Also, has anyone had issues with nutrient loss in freeze-dried foods after several years of storage?

Calorie density and shelf life top my list, but I always stash lots of dried herbs too—adds nutrients and flavor. Anyone noticed a weird taste from canned proteins after a few years?
