Canned meats (chicken, salmon, even Spam) are staples in my emergency pantry—protein, fat, and flavor all in one, plus they last for years if you keep them cool and rotate the stock. I also lean heavy on lentils (so much easier to cook than beans if water or fuel might be limited) and quinoa for a protein boost that stores well. For real variety, I’ve gotten into making my own fruit & veggie leathers; they’re great for nutrition and morale, just need a dehydrator and some time. Shelf-stable tofu isn’t bad for certain dishes, too—comes in those aseptic packs.
If you have the space, peanut butter powder and honey both store forever and really help with energy and taste fatigue (honey never goes bad if sealed right). Whole powdered milk or coconut milk powder rounds out a lot of meals, plus calcium.
Anyone else experimented with vacuum-sealed nuts or seeds? I hear mixed things about their shelf life due to oils, but I’d love to know if some types hold up better long-term.
