Best Home Defense Tips for Newbie Preppers: Share Yours!

Been working on my home defense lately. Any tips for a solid yet simple alarm system that won't break the bank? Also, how important is a good guard dog in your opinion?

Got some experience with DIY alarm systems here. Look into something like the SimpliSafe system. Relatively affordable, easy to set up, and it’s got all the bells and whistles. I've found the peace of mind it offers to be invaluable.

As for guard dogs, they certainly have their place, but remember, they're not just a tool, they're a responsibility. Dogs need care, attention, and training, which can be an investment in itself. But yeah, a well-trained dog is a fantastic deterrent and offer great companionship to boot.

On another note, don't forget the basics. Reinforce your doors and windows. Install deadbolt locks and use window security film. It's not as high tech as an alarm system or as compelling as a dog, but it can make a massive difference.

Curious though, anyone tried the Ring security system? How does it compare to SimpliSafe?

Solid advice on the SimpliSafe, GarnetDusk. Love their smoke alarm feature. The guard dog part, though, completely agree. It's a huge commitment, not just a safety device. Ever thought about geese? They're surprisingly good at raising the alarm!

While I definitely agree with GarnetDusk’s recommendation of SimpliSafe for an affordable yet comprehensive security system, I'd also like to add a bit of a green touch. BlueHarborTea, have you considered natural deterrents? Thorny bushes
