Best Low-Tech Cooking Methods for Power Outages?

When the grid’s down, what’s your go-to for safe, reliable cooking? I’ve tried a few methods over the years, but with all the talk about EMPs and natural disasters, I’m reevaluating what low-tech setups really make sense.

Rocket stoves are fantastic for fuel efficiency, but I’ve found even the best designs still give off a little smoke—windy days help but can be unpredictable. Dakota fire holes are much better for keeping things discreet, though digging one when the ground’s frozen is no picnic. Solar ovens are lovely in theory, but I’ve had spotty results unless there’s full sun for hours. Has anyone managed to get reliable baking in a solar oven during cloudy stretches?
