Best Skills to Learn for Total Grid Failure?

In the event of a true grid-down scenario, which practical skills do you all consider non-negotiable beyond the basics like water filtration and firemaking? Is anyone prioritizing things like improvised medical care or small-scale food production over security and communications?

One skill I keep coming back to is basic sanitation and waste management—seems like it gets overlooked, but if the grid goes down long-term, disease could spread faster than most folks imagine. Knowing how to dig a safe latrine or compost waste properly feels just as urgent as first aid or food production. On the food front, actually being able to save seeds and rotate crops for next season is something I’m working on in the garden (easier said than done, with some vegetables). Bartering and negotiating might be worth thinking about too, since supplies will dry up and not everyone will be carrying cash around.

Curious if anyone here has actually spent a week or more off-grid, really simulating these conditions? Would love to hear which skills turned out to be more important than expected.
