Best Suburban Homesteading Practices: Tips and Tricks?

Been working on my suburban homestead and ran into a snag. Any tips on compact composting, especially in smaller yards? Sustainable living's the aim, but space is tight.

In a tight space, consider a compact, vertical composting bin. They're nifty and don't take up much room. Great for kitchen scraps, coffee grounds, egg shells - you name it. Worm composting, also known as vermicomposting, could work wonders too. Anyone tried both methods and have a preference?

Having tried both methods, I'm more inclined towards vermicomposting. It's a win-win - you get compost for your garden and a healthier worm population. Plus, it's kinda fascinating watching the little guys at work. Anyone else find the worms escape sometimes, though?

Both methods have their perks, but in my experience, vertical composting takes the cake in tight spaces. It's efficient, easy to maintain, and keeps those pesky rodents at bay. The worm escape artists do add an element of surprise to the vermicomposting, don't they? Now, just wondering, anyone got tips to keep the compost from smelling too strong?
