Is it really necessary to treat tap water with bleach if it’s already chlorinated, or are the food-grade barrels enough by themselves? Tap water straight from the tap into food-grade barrels has worked fine for me without adding bleach, as long as the barrels are spotless to start. I typically rotate mine once a year, and never had a bad smell or taste. Biggest issue is keeping them away from sunlight—algae loves a sunny corner.
