Best Ways to Store Water Long-Term?

Looking to improve my water storage setup for long-term situations. I’ve used food-grade barrels in the past, but I’m wondering about the pros/cons of using stabilized bleach vs. water preservation tablets, especially for multi-year storage. Also curious if anyone’s tried layering charcoal filters in their setup? Open to hearing any tips for keeping stored water fresh without cycling it every 6 months. What’s worked (or failed) for folks here?

Food-grade barrels with stabilized bleach have worked best for me—haven’t had funky smells or taste even after 2 years. Has anyone here tried silver ion drops for storage?

Stabilized bleach has been my go-to for years, mainly because it’s easy to measure and pretty cheap too. I tried tablets once, but it left a bit of a chemical taste—maybe I messed up the ratio. Haven’t tried the charcoal layering yet, but I do keep my barrels covered and out of

Stabilized bleach has been the simplest for me too—just have to get the ratios right, and I haven’t had any issues with taste or smell after a couple years. I get where you’re coming from with wanting to avoid cycling every six months; honestly, I don’t bother unless I see something off or the seal’s been broken.
