Definitely going with A) SOS—classic for a reason! I figure if it’s good enough for Morse code and stranded castaways in every movie ever, it’s probably the safest bet. Besides, if I tried spelling “HELP” out with pinecones, I’d end up with something that looks like “HEIP” and totally confuse the rescue team. Bonus tip: always carry a bright scarf. You never know when you’ll need to wave down a search helicopter—or just jazz up your campsite.

Totally agree—SOS is like the survival world’s universal password. And yeah, trying to spell HELP out of rocks just invites the wind to mess with your art project. I still remember trying that once and someone thought I’d written “YELP” instead. Anyone ever actually try the old-fashioned signal fire trick? I always worry I’d just end up roasting marshmallows and forgetting the

If I tried the signal fire, I’d probably burn my hat and attract every raccoon in a ten mile radius. Anyone ever use a mirror and blind themselves by accident?

Mirror signaling always sounds so clever until you’re out there, accidentally giving yourself a sunburn on your eyeballs. I once tried to signal a friend and ended up flashing light at a flock of geese—they were not impressed. Honestly think between pinecone letters, marshmallow fires, and mirror mishaps, rescue teams must have some wild stories. Ever try using a whistle? Pretty sure my dog thought it was snack time.
