A for sure—three short blasts is the international "help me, I’m not just whistling Dixie" signal, right? Has anyone actually tried this and then panicked and done four by accident?

Definitely going with A—three short blasts. OldTimerJohn, I always wondered who decided that “three” officially meant “I’m in trouble,” but I guess it beats playing a whole tune out in the woods! Can’t say I’ve ever panicked and done four, but I have accidentally swallowed a bug mid-blast. Survival tip: practice your whistle signals and keep your mouth closed between blows if it’s gnat season.
