DIY Solar Power: Worth it for Off-Grid Living?

Been tinkering with the idea of installing a DIY solar power system for my retreat. Wanted to lean into self-sufficiency and sustainability, plus the long-term cost savings seem appealing. But I've heard the setup can be a real beast. Any of you folk gone this route and would you say it's worth it? Could use some real-world feedback before I dive in.

Been down this road myself, and while it's true the set up can be a bit of a chore, the payoff is well worth it. Self-sufficient, sustainable living is a goal we should all aim for. You may encounter a few hiccups along the way, but persevere. No better feeling than relying on your own resources. Curious, what region are you in? Solar viability can depend

Totally agree with you, BlueHarborTea. The initial setup can be daunting, but the satisfaction of being energy independent is off the charts. One thing I found helpful while setting up my system was to take it slow and tackle one phase at a time. BlueSkyWanderer, have you considered starting with a small system for essentials and gradually expanding as you learn the ropes?
